Name: Devil Came on Horseback, The
Product Code: 9781586485696
Description:By Brian Steidle and Gretchen Steidle Wallace
Product Detail:The Devil Came on Horseback: Bearing Witness to the Genocide in Darfur chronicles the Arab Sudanese government’s systematic destruction of its black African citizens, the maddening complexity of international inaction in response to blatant genocide, and the transformation of a former Marine turned humanitarian. This memoir is of former United States Marine Captain Brian Steidle’s experiences as an unarmed African Union military observer in Darfur, located in the country of Sudan. It’s an engaging and stirring account of the violence, bloodshed, and genocide he witnessed there. Captain Steidle was fired upon, taken hostage, and saw villages burned down with people locked inside their huts to burn to death. All of this a part of the government’s intentional and ongoing campaign, with the aid of nomadic Arab’s called Janjaweed, to eradicate the black population of Darfur.
