Product Detail:	This graceful rose pendant was inspired by a hair comb that is on display in the Permanent Exhibition at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The woman who owned the comb was a German Sinteza (a woman of the Sinti group of Gypsies) and a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp. The Roma (Gypsies) were among the groups singled out on racial grounds for persecution by the Nazi regime. The Nazis judged Roma to be "racially inferior," and the fate of Roma in some ways paralleled that of the Jews. The rose is meant to honor the hundreds of thousands of Roma that were both murdered and persecuted during the Holocaust. The pendant's ordinary beauty also represents the millions of people who were murdered and persecuted during one of the darkest periods of human history for no other reason than being themselves.
