Product Detail
Butterfly Pin
Name: Butterfly Pin
Product Code: X3139
Description:Designed by the Museum. Inspired by an artifact.
Product Detail:This beautiful blue enameled and silver pin was adapted from a wine bottle stopper carried by Gizela Schenker as a good luck charm throughout the war. The Schenker family fled Cracow, Poland, in 1939 and obtained visas from acting Dutch consul Jan Zwartendijk and Japanese counsel Chiune Sugihara. They fled to the east, but Gizela and her son, Alexander, only got to Lvov. In the spring of 1940, Soviet authorities deported them to Siberia. Alexander worked as a lumberjack in a Soviet labor camp 400 miles northeast of Moscow. When he and his mother were released they found his grandmother and went to Tadzhikistan. After the war they were reunited with their family in the United States.

The Schenker family believes the wine bottle stopper brought them luck. Perhaps the delightful pin will bring you a touch of luck also.
